Persistent infection caused by Hobi-like pestivirus.

A calf persistently infected by Hobi-like pestivirus was monitored for about 6 months, displaying clinical signs typical of bovine viral diarrhea virus persistent infection and shedding the virus through all body secretions, with maximal titers detected in urine. This report provides new insights into the pathogenesis of the emerging pestivirus.

Hobi-like pestivirus in aborted bovine fetuses.

An outbreak of abortion affecting multiparous cows was associated with Hobi-like pestivirus infection. Viral RNA and antigens were detected in the tissues of two aborted fetuses. Molecular assays for other common abortogenic agents tested negative. At the genetic level, the Hobi-like pestivirus displayed the closest relatedness to Italian, Australian, and South American viruses, whereas it dive...

Genome sequence of a novel Hobi-like pestivirus in China.

Hobi-like pestivirus is a novel pestivirus species first isolated in 2004. Here, we report the genome sequence of a Hobi-like pestivirus strain isolated from contaminated MDBK cells in China. The sequence information is important for surveillance of this emerging animal infectious disease worldwide.

Ruminant pestivirus infection in pigs.

Ruminant pestivirus infections of pigs have a worldwide distribution. The prevalence is varied and depends mainly on (i) contact with cattle, (ii) age of pigs and (iii) degree of homology of virus strains used for serology, with field strains of bovine virus diarrhoea virus (BVDV) infecting pigs. Emphasis should be laid on sources of BVDV other than cattle, e.g. contaminated vaccines and fetal ...

Natural infection of cattle with an atypical 'HoBi'-like pestivirus--implications for BVD control and for the safety of biological products.

During a study on Bovine Viral Diarrhoea (BVD) epidemiology in Thailand, a pestivirus was detected in serum from a calf. Comparative nucleotide sequence analysis showed that this virus was closely related to a recently described atypical pestivirus (D32/00_'HoBi') that was first isolated from a batch of foetal calf serum collected in Brazil. The results from virus neutralisation tests performed...
